Three all-time Colonial Road Runners age-group 5K records were broken Saturday morning at the 14th annual Heritage Humane Society 5K Run at Ford’s Colony. Ryan Kent, 20, of Yorktown (16:26) and Jennifer Quarles, 34, of Williamsburg (18:50) were the overall winners.

Rick Platt, 55, of Williamsburg was fifth overall in 18:02, breaking the previous all-time CRR mark of 18:07 for men 55-59 by Frank Wagner, 55, of Richmond at the 1993 William and Mary Homecoming Run 5K.

Joan Coven, 65, of Williamsburg ran a 23:49 to obliterate the previous all-time CRR mark of 26:36 for women 65-69 by Nancy Patron, 66, of Williamsburg at the 2002 Governor’s Land 5K. Patron herself ran a 28:44 to break the previous all-time CRR mark of 29:14 for women 70-74 by Pat Ewell, 72, of Williamsburg at the 2005 Governor’s Land 5K.

Second and third overall for the men were Steve Chantry, 51, of Williamsburg (17:22) and Hussein Easmeil, 39, of Newport News (17:51). Chantry clinched the 2006 CRR men’s Grand Prix overall title with two races remaining with 69 points, followed by Michael Mann (47), John Piggott (36) and Steve Menzies (33).

Second and third overall for the women were Valerie Plyler, 47, of Yorktown (19:47) and Dakota McManus, 10, of Wiliamsburg (21:18). Quarles also clinched the 2006 CRR women’s Grand Prix overall title with 95 points, followed by Plyler (78) and Laura Shannon (62).

Chantry, 51, extended his age record for the oldest runner to place second overall in a CRR Grand Prix race. McManus, 10, is the youngest runner to place in the top three overall for the women in a CRR Grand Prix race.
